Ending the lives of their victims is not the only kick serial killers get. Just about every killer made sure to leave behind or take a memento of their victims – something like a trophy. One of the most common keepsakes of murderers are photographs. At times these photos surface to the public for multiple reasons – identifying the killer’s patterns, portraying the brutality of the crimes or even identifying the victims. The following are photographs snapped of victims by their killers. Fair warning, some of them are quite graphic in nature.
Regina Kay Walters, Victim of Robert Ben Rhoades
Robert Ben Rhoades, a serial killer in the 80s drove around in a semi-truck with a torture chamber in the back. In late 1989, a 14-year-old named Regina Kay Walters fell victim to his ways. The chilling expression of pure terror etched on her face is nerve shattering.
Photo of Kidnapping Victims Left in Parking Lot
Out of the pair pictured, the woman identified is believed to be Tara Calico (the identity of the boy is still unknown). The terrifying part about this polaroid is the fact that it was discovered in a parking lot in 1988 only minutes after a plain white van left. Investigators if the scene reached the conclusion that the photograph was taken at that instant, making the boy and girl so close by to rescue yet so far. The pair of them were never found again.
James Ferris, Bound and Injected by Bob Berdella
In the mid-1980s, Bob Berdella tortured, assaulted and killed at least six men. He enjoyed snapping Polaroids of his victims and when he was arrested a series of these pictures were published in a Kansas City newspaper.
Judy Ann Dull, Moments Before Her Demise
Harvey Glatman’s M.O. was a serial killer who lured women to his hotel room under the pretext of being a photographer on the lookout for a photoshoot in exchange for quick cash. Once the women arrived, he would tie them up, photograph them and then kill them. At times, the photoshoot continued even after their death.
Shari Miller, Photographed Moments Before Death
Bartender, Shari Miller was convinced by William Richard Bradford to go out to the desert for an impromptu photoshoot. A few photographs later, Bradford killed Miller by strangling, mutilated her body and dumped her in a dumpster.
Later, Bradford was questioned in regards to another missing woman, Tracey Campbell. This was when the police discovered Miller’s photos whom they identified as their missing Jane Doe. About 54 other women’s pictures were also found. This ultimately led police to Miller’s killing site.
By 2006, more women from the photographs were identified. Although most of them still remain a mystery, Bradford was executed in 2008.
Unidentified Victims of The Dating Game Killer
Rodney Alcala, who is also called the “Dating Game Killer” because of his appearance on The Dating Game before he was arrested, is believed to be responsible for more than 200 murders. Police discovered multiple photographs of young woman in his vicinity. Most of them have yet to be identified but they are suspected to be victims of Alcala.
Anatoly Slivko’s Scout Video Images
Anatoly Slivko is considered to be one of the most sadistic killers in history. He was inspired to perform grisly experiments on young boys before killing them after he witnessed an automobile accident which involved the death of a boy. Slivko then began befriending young boys and would lure them to the woods where he would hang them by the necks until they passed out. Often times, Slivko would assault the boys while they were unconscious. He would then revive them and swear them to secrecy.
Seven of his victims were dismembered, burned and desecrated for his own sexual gratification. He also recreated the scene of the accident that initially aroused him and started all this. Every one of his victims had a video tape dedicated to him. Slivko was executed in 1989.
The Last Known Photograph of Madyson Jamison
In October 2009, the entire Jamison family – Sherilynn, Bobby and daughter Madyson – disappeared in under suspicious circumstances. Four years later, their corpses were found outside Red Oak, OK, in the woods. Foul play was suspected. The photographer behind this cellphone snap is unclear, but many believe that the Jamisons’ murderer was the person behind the lens.
These chilling snaps serve as a reminder that mankind is capable of just about anything. The depravity of these killers and the helplessness witnessed on the faces of the victims in these pictures are disturbing. Witnessing the sheer brutality of these killers and their crimes is enough to render one terrified of those around. You never know when it is your turn next.
