Have you ever suffered from insomnia or had a hard time sleeping? You try everything and anything to go back to sleep, even if it’s just for a few hours? Michael Massaia, from New Jersey, suffers from insomnia and has turned his sleepless nights into beautiful, haunting photos of Central Park. The park that is usually filled with life and color has been transformed into his photographs and they are unbelievable.
Massaia’s insomnia started in 2007 and he claims that he would go for a long period of time without sleep and he would just go on long walks to maybe help him eventually fall asleep. Instead of going to therapy for his insomnia or seeking medication, Massaia started to take photographs of all the landscapes he came across and used dawn’s illuminating light as his only form of lighting. Massaia lives near the Big Apple, so he’s been shooting images of Central Park between 2008 and 2014.
His photos of Central Park are on black and white film, so they truly show the park in a form people never saw before. Check out the images below as well as his website to see more of his photographs!
