Initially it was believed that Abdul-Mateen would be playing the new ‘Candyman’ character. However, it doesn’t appear that will be the case. Speaking to Collider recently, DaCosta revealed that Abdul-Mateen won’t be replacing original ‘Candyman‘ Tony Todd:

“Well, it’s been slightly misreported,” DaCosta said. “I can’t say what’s happening in the film because we want it to be a surprise, but he’s not replacing Tony Todd.

“That’s been reported, and I was just like, “I don’t know what to say about this. This is not right.’”

Jordan Peele writes and produces the MGM project, which returns to theaters on June 12, 2020.
