Godzilla vs. Kong has been anticipated for some time. With the two titular monsters’ shared universe being built up for quite a while, it was only a matter of time before they met. However, the release date for the film has been pushed back several times, thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic effectively shutting down the movie industry.
Now, though, potential viewers finally have their first look at the two characters fighting. The image, which has been shared online on various unofficial Twitter accounts, comes from the back of an upcoming tie-in toy. As a result, the image is relatively low-quality, though it does show the titular monsters in combat.
The toy line had already been confirmed and is currently in production under the Playmates banner. Given that the toy line was made in conjunction with the filming of Godzilla vs. Kong, it’s best to take the image with a grain of salt. The main reason for this is that the picture could be concept art based on the monsters’ films so far.
This could mean that it may not be an actual still from the movie. That would also explain why the image is relatively low-quality, especially considering how high-quality the CGI has been in the characters’ films.
The upcoming film has been rated PG-13, with an official description saying that it’s set in a world with kaiju and humans now coexist. However, a plot to manipulate the monsters to cause destruction is underway.
Godzilla vs. Kong is currently set for a release in May 2021 after being delayed on several occasions. The toy line highlighted in the image was initially scheduled for a release in the fall of this year to line-up with the film’s release. However, this was also delayed, though it’s unclear when the toys will be released.
A better quality image also surfaced online.
